European – African Media Camp

The Mediacamp in Münster (June 2009) was the second meeting for the young multipliers from Kolping Society in Nigeria, the future media trainers from Ghana, Poland and Germany. After the successful meeting in January and the additional trainings on national level the multipliers moved to the next step- working together and establishing of medial products.

During the first two days of the Media Camp the participants of Ghana and Nigeria were intensively trained into radio skills and revised their camera basics. The further working process included media training in five different workshops. The groups were mixed so that each country could have at least one representative in every working group.

The first phase of the working process was connected to the writing of the storyboard, which included: -composing of the story, writing of the interview questions, writing of the over voice. The second phase was the filming process. The participants was given the possibility to show their creativity as they filmed different images, made interviews and documented the whole event every single day. The third phase was the editing process. During the long and tiring hours of cutting, the participants not only obtained a good techniques skills but also exchanged interesting ideas, considering their movies.

The various activities in the evenings, as for example countries’ presentations, visits of international festivals, the African community, cooking and dancing together helped the integration process. Special movies on two different topics, represented by the Nigerian group: Gender and equality and Wrestling African fashion and African dishes strengthened the international dialogue. The official visit to the Mayor in the City hall was one of the highlight during the media camp. There, the participants have learned about the exciting history of the city of Münster and about the Westphalia Peace.

The trip to Cologne and the visit to the Headquarter of the Kolping society was one of the most impressive moment for the African guests. During the intensive discussion the young multipliers received impressions about the work and the different activities of the Kolping Society.

The study visit to Suedlohn gave the participants the possibility to learn more about the local Kolping Society and to exchange some ideas and experience with the people working there.

The additional visit of local farms was not only very interesting but also very enjoyable for both sides the guests and the hosts. During the final event the participants had the possibility to talked about their medial products and to present them to everybody. Vive different movies with the following topics were presented: Prospective of young people in Europe and Africa, Biafra War, African culture, Intercultural understanding, Documentation. At the end of the final event everybody received certificate for their successful participation at the media camp.
