Study visit to Nigeria

Kick- Off Meeting for the Project “North- South media Bridge” 13.01.09- 22.01.09 Umuahia, Nigeria 22 multipliers and youth workers from Citizen center Bennohaus in Münster, Nowy Staw Foundation in Poland and Kolping Catholic diocese in Nigeria spent one week together in January im Umahia, Nigeria in order to organise and plan one-year-old youth educational project.

The Kick-Off Meeting was leaded by Chigozie Ernest Onu from the Center for African Culture in Münster, Dr. Joachim Musholt and his Polish partner Tomasz Rozniak from Poland. Their major task was to introduce the successful training modell „EU media trainer” to the West African partners and to promote in this way the work and the intercultural dialogue between the youth workers from Europe and West Africa. With the help of various multimedia, seminars, presentations and discussions, all partners were persuaded in the success of the project.

Inspired by the innovative model, created by citizenhouse Bennohouse and Nowy Staw Foundation, the Centre for Arfican Culture e.V. North Rhine-Westphalia together with the new West-African partners  want to establish similar  small multimedia  centre for youngsters. There, undeprivileged young people will be taught by experienced mediatrainers how to investigate political and intercultural subjects and how to produce short movies on these topics.

The medial products will be spread worlwide thanks to the technological possibilities of the Internet on www.owtv.de. The project „North-South media Bridge” woke the interest of the Minister for Youth development in Abia State, Mr. Barrister Uche Ihediwa and the Minister for Women Affairs Lady Chinedu Brown. Even the Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Dr. L.I.Ugorji inserts a good word for the advanced training concept. All activities of the participants were transmitted by the local television institution BCA in Umahia, as well as published in the Lumen newspaper in Abia State. In April, 2009 the Citizen center Bennohouse will open the doors for the further media training for the West-African youth workers. All initiatives of the project as well as the planning and the organisation is lead by the Centre for African Culture and AKO, settled in Bennohouse.
