Art & Media – Ways out of Poverty

Culture has an important role in the creation of economical and educational opportunities for young citizens. The current financial and economical crisis boosts poverty and social exclusion worldwide. The project “Art & Media – Ways out of Poverty” aims to support digital creativity of young citizens and tries to relieve poverty and social exclusion. It will increase the role of intercultural and inter-religious communication to all levels of life by using art and digital media as tools.

About 8 million Turkish people and around 15 millions of immigrants of different nationalities are living in Germany, Great Britain and France. Because of differences in fundamental values and culture between them (Muslims, Christians, non-religious) the civil society dialogue becomes more and more important. The third country partners Jordan and Palestine will bring in authentic aspects of the social situation in the Arabian partner countries.

The religious and political leaders in Europe and in the Arabian region are stressing to relieve poverty and social exclusion. “Art & Media” wants to become a digital mirror of the social situation in the European, Jordan and Palestine society.

Digital media (television, web tv, video, photography) is an optimal tool to care for this dialogue, to strengthen the dissemination of information and stimulating public debates on intercultural issues. The project is aims to promote the intercultural dialogue as a process in which young citizens can improve and develop their skills to deal with the current cultural and social situation in their society and to express themselves by “Art & Media”. It will raise the awareness of the importance of developing an active citizenship, which respects cultural diversity and reflects the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations.

The guideline of this project is to support artistic creativity in combination with intercultural communication by using digital media in training seminars, workshops and youth initiatives in the field of medial and artistic creativity and intercultural communication for multipliers and young people in Germany, Poland, Great Britain, Norway, Bulgaria, Jordan and Palestine. Young people and artists from schools, NGO´s, youth organizations and art galleries will be engaged in local art initiatives, workshops and international meetings. They will create works of art in different art forms (digital pictures, photo- and video collages, short films, music clips) within the scope of the seminars, local workshops and media art initiatives. The best of their art work will be presented on exhibitions in all partner countries and on the international level in Amman, Münster and Orléans or Lublin or York.

People will see, hear, feel, talk and learn about cultural diversity by imaging ways to overcome poverty and social exclusion. All art works, activities and exhibitions will be documented in the quarterly broadcasted tv magazine “Metro Art&Media” and disseminated by Internet-TV worldwide (www.owtv.de) and in Open TV Channels / Community media in Europe. It is independent from the state and would be able to show all the project actions and results to promote the intercultural dialogue for a wide range of stakeholders from different sectors in an active and innovative way.
