Young people deal with climate change

29.4.2012 to 7.5.2012 in Hannover – Objective of the proposed seminar is training, improving competences and skills of the responsible youth workers who want to use media tools in their daily work with the theme “climate change and sustainability”.

The project will work with the theme "Cultivating awareness on climate change" because climate change ist a very important issue of the global future and for that reason it is one of the main-issues for young people in almost every European country as researches are showing in the last decade.

Climate change is also a main theme in action-plans of the European commission and an important part of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

The training seminar will introduce 28 young people from 9 countires to the methods of raising European awareness, promoting environmental protection and sustainability together with intercultural dialogue and fostering understanding and cooperation between young people in Europe with the help of community media and web-TV-tools. Focussed on the theme ‘climate change and renewable energy’ the participants will explore characteristics of active citizenship, and intercultural dialogue and will learn how these priorities can be creatively addressed by means of using modern digitalmedia and community media.

Later on the new MediaTrainers (youth workers) will start Youth initiatives and editorial boards with unemployed Youth on local level to improve communication skills and foster the employability of Youth. They will be able to know more about sustainability, to know how community media works, to produce short reports, street interviews and information clips about acute ecological issues for the community media and European Web-TV.

Building up a network of youth media multipliers will allow to initiate and maintain the theme of the training course in community media and cross-border internet-TV programs. Involvement of the Youth in EU member states as well as Turkey is very welcome to support ‘sustainabilitiy’ as an aim in Europe and to promote MDG, intercultural communication, youth participation, active citizenship and tolerance in Europe.
