Following a feeling. I landed in Germany

I'm in  Münster almost by mistake. Three months ago I finished my journalism career and I had to choose my new way. Without help, just me and my future in front of me. Pointing out and staring at me. Of course I'm sure where I want to be in a few years, that's not the point. The problem is the nearest next step, cause you were following a clear line during your whole life and now this line has just disappeared.

I'm Sabela Gonzalez. I am from Vigo, a coast city in Galicia, Spain, next to the border with Portugal. I really love my city cause from every place you can see the sea and three amazing islands, Cies. So we have sea smell everywhere and it's great. But five years ago, when I was eighteen, I moved to Santiago de Compostela, the capital, most known as the “Camino of Santiago de Compostela city”. So I lost the sea smell and the beach but I learned how university life is and more importantly living without my parents.

Master is always the next gate, but what if I want to follow another one? Last year a friend talked to me about something called European Voluntary Service (EVS) so I started to be curious about it. And I had found an email where I found Youth4Media. As a consequence, I wrote them. And they answered me fast, but I wasn't sure about what I have found, it was confusing. So I just kept on and completely forgot about EVS and Germany.

One month later, I received an email. It was Youth4Media asking my curriculum because maybe they were interested in my profile. And one month and a half later, I was in the middle of a German train station without phone neither the Internet connection, without any authentic idea where I was suppose to go. Only my luggage, a book about Palestine's conflict and Daria's phone number.

Since last year, I'm doing these kind of things without thinking so much and just following a feeling. And for now, it's working. I spent one of the best moments I have ever had in Turkey living there for one year and now I'm in Germany. I have no idea about Germany or about what I'm going to learn exactly or if I will enjoy being here. Barely I remember my new address.

I came on 2nd of September and Beata, my new flatmate, openly hugged me. It was 6 am and she was awake to open the door for me. Two days later, we were taking a plane to Greece. In less than a week I was in three different countries practically for free. Only because of Youth4Media and EVS.

Now we are in Münster again and we had already seen Bennohaus and the office. Beata and me had a long and heavy meeting to know what we will be doing here. International projects in and outside the country, theoretical sessions about video recording and editing, making reportages, learning German and even working weekly in a tv magazine. It seems to much work, but I love it. Only English and German, meeting new people almost every week, travelling, journalism and communication. It gives me the idea of a perfect year.

And I'm here because I tried to look for another way, try to find something else and I got it. Here I am, starting what is suppose to be a long year abroad learning, meeting new people and culture as well as gaining experience. Only what a great journalist said once, “foolishness gave me much better memories than common sense”.
